    6/23/24 Pomona Swap Meet

one of the best parts of going to this "every 2 months or so" swap meet is the 50 mile drive from my house on the 210 freeway at "fast speeds" in the dark, early on a Sunday morning. Lets just say by the time I pulled in at the "Car Corral" (classic car parking area) at 5:50am...I was late as the gates open at 5am. Its' quite the gathering spot for classic car crowds. Some make a whole day of it.
I just go to walk the rows and look for parts, wierd stuff, deals, etc.

Here's a peek at 6 am when I got out of the nomad and took a panorama video.

(For those of you who may not be familiar, this is held at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds in Pomona CA. Same venue that NHRA holds the Winternationals and other drag racing events. Gigantic paved parking lot used for this automotive swap meet. About every 2 months or so.

And no...I did not come home with another project. I did find an interior trim part I needed though.
It was 100 degrees and humid by noon.

I like the Pomona swap meet. It's a 500 mile run for me. In my younger days, I never missed one. Now, I go once or twice a year. To make it worthwhile, we leave Friday morning with a car for sale on a trailer. We drop the trailer inside the gate, in line for Saturday morning. At 9:00 they collect our fee, and go down the the appropriate car corral area and park the car for sale. We then cruise all the aisles as sellers are setting up. Find some great deals during the day. At least half the time we sell the car or truck we brought on Saturday. Sunday is always a mob scene, it's packed with people unless the weather is terrible. Like they say, we swap, rain or shine. I've sold in both. Fun times.

Its still going strong Busterwivell. Despite the number of Californians who have left the state for other places. Still lots of car guys around here.

Plans are still iffy, but I should be at the August or October one.

Heck yes I drove it! That's what I was referring to in my write about the drive in the dark at 5am on the freeway. Nobody else hardly out there at that hour, so you can "open her up" a bit.

Its kind of weird that they start so early, and before you can walk through it all, most of the verdors are packing up. I don't know, maybe they need time to clean up the grounds for some other event the next day.

Lee, Once I went back to fairgrounds a couple of hours after the swap meet was over. The place looked almost like a land fill. I'm sure it takes hours to clean up the mess.

The way it works is they open gates on Saturday mid day for the sellers to enter and get set up. So there's all this horsetrading that goes on Saturday afternoon and evening. The gates are open for the general public at 5am on Sunday. So yes, by noon it's winding down. It gets hot on that parking lot, you need to start early to get it all in before the heat sets in.

All good points, although most of the times that I was there were during winter time (too business in the summer), and sometimes I could spend most of the time just in the car corral. Years ago I use to go out to the southwest on business and would bring a 32' trailer back to Michigan full of cars and/or parts, then a lot of the parts I sold went right back to California.
